Abstract

The objective of this essay was to discuss a publication policy aiming at the quality of scientific journals in the area of Physical Education. This area is facing recently a proliferation of journals that seems incompatible with the total volume of articles that the scientific community is able to produce. In order to secure the quality of journals, some aspects such as the constant improvement of Qualis system, the pursuit of increasingly qualified indexations, the increment in the number of productive researchers, the creation of a representative scientific association and the clarification of some polemic points – for example, the issue of valorization of publications in the national journals and of researches centered in local or regional topics, the problem of the nature of the area of knowledge and the specificities of fields of investigation – were suggested as important elements of this policy.
