Load Predictability’s effect on posture control for manual actions control

Abstract

This study analyzes posture control in relation to load predictability when lifting through manual action is carried out. Ten adult males performed the task of manually raising a box with different weight loads (1, 3, and 5 kg) in situatons of weight predictability and nonpredictability. An unpredictable load resulted in lesser initial displacement and reduced spoeed from the center of pressure. The behavior of the center of pressure indicated greater body oscillation as the load increased. The elevation of the lighter load permitted faster adjustments for the maintenance of balanced posture. The system demonstrated a versatility in control strategies for integrating manual tasks and posture in relation to the unpredictable of some parameters of response (weight load).
