Doping is one of the most controversial questions in modern sport. However, the studies that investigate athlete´s values, motivations and attitudes toward this question are very rare. The aim of this paper is to present an international comparative research with brazilian and german olympic athletes (Sydney, 2000) regarding doping in sport. It was used in the investigation qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. The results indicate that athlete´s attitudes toward doping is conditioned with a process of mediation between moral values, instrumental rationality and social values. In this way, it’s possible to propose a re-signification of modern sport through values and attitudes of their main social actors.
