Abstract

This article is based on the historical analysis of the most important transformations of the Spanish football in the first half of the twenties, from the study of the performance of the Spanish team in the Olympics in Antwerp (1920) and Paris (1924). This study also aims to analyze the role of press and football in the construction of the national identity and the creation of new sports heroes, in a period of gradual implementation of professionalism in the process of development of mass society.

Licenciado en Historia por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Licenciado en Documentación por la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Doctor en Humanidades por la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Profesor Ayudante en el Departamento de Humanidades de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. En la actualidad soy investigador postdoctoral contratado en el Olympic Studies Centre, Departamento de Ciencias de la Comunicación y Publicidad. Área de investigación: Historia del deporte y Juegos Olímpicos.
