The aim of this study was to relate the isometric strength of the rotators and the ability to activate the transversus abdominis muscle (TrA) between 15 handball athletes (GA) and 15 college students (GC) (22 ± 1.64 years). All were subjected to evaluation of the ability of TrA activation by pressure biofeedback unit, and of the ability to activate the muscle internal (IR) and external (ER) rotators with the break test through the Modifi ed Sphygmomanometer. Results showed signifi cant correlation between the strength of the TrA and ER GA (r = 0.68, p = 0.005). There were signifi cant differences between GA and GC for activation of TrA, IR and ER (p <0.05). We conclude that the practice of handball improves the activation of TrA in proportion to the magnitude of activation of ER.Downloads
