Curitiba, the garden-city: the relationship between public spaces and nature in the realm of leisure and sports

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The present article aims at showing that public parks are a visible part of Curitiba urban issue which is based on different models of urban planning addressed to environmental preservation. This study is inserted into thesocial science macro-field and aims at investigating, developing and showing leisure time and sport experiences in daily life. Its approach is interdisciplinary and seeks to notice the peculiar aspects of an urban planning based on the “garden-city” model. The study is structured taking into consideration historical presuppositions, conceptual basis and ways of appropriation and re-appropriation of public environments from the viewpoint of the individual-city-nature connection.
