Abstract
The goal of this study, descriptive in nature, is to present the characteristics that a good physical education teacher should possess. It also identifies and discusses five successful experiences of this type in the city of Maringá. In order to define what the characteristics of a good physical education teacher should be, 11 professors who are active in the training of teachers at the Universidade Estadual de Maringá were chosen; for the selection of experiences considered to be particularly positive, student teachers from the university ’s School of Physical Education were also listened to. The data analysis demonstrates that, although school teaching of physical education is permeated by a wide range of difficulties, successful teaching practices do result from the actions of teachers who are devoted to the search for quality in educational processes.
