Abstract

The participation of the population in running has increased significantly in recent years. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of pain in recreational runners at the time preceding the start of the race, and discusses some etiological factors related to the practice of the race. Interviews were conducted with 155 runners in the place of the race through a questionnaire completed by the interviewers. We analyzed issues relating to the training environment and habits of athletes, and the intensity of pain, when present. Prevalence of pain in recreational runners at the time preceding the start of the race was about 25% and was associated with increased volume of training per week.
