PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN CHILE: CRITICAL ANALYSIS ABOUT MINISTERIAL DOCUMENTATION

Abstract

Critical analysis study about official, formal and ministerial documentation related to physical education in Chile. In this study, 25 documents have been taken into account (primary and secondary education). Via an inductive content analysis, we describe Chilean physical education as a subject, in the school curriculum, mainly focused on trying to teach children to have better movements, following a biomedical approach and an excessive emphasis on teaching sports. This is done with a superficial attempt to build a critical physical education that addresses the social inequalities in the country.
